Born into the Business

My dad, Mike Miller, has been in the marketing and advertising business since before I was born, so I’ve been around this industry my entire life. He’s also been involved in pool industry marketing for almost that long. When I was growing up, spending my weekends around pools, shooting commercials and photos for magazines, was pretty normal (and quite fun, I might add!).

When I was young, my dad worked directly for POOLCORP, the world’s largest wholesale distributor of swimming pool supplies, equipment and related leisure products. He was (and is) the man to go to for all your marketing needs if you were a pool dealer/retail store owner. Although he has always been involved with pools since founding Miller Davis Agency, he recently began handling the marketing needs of the German company Elbtal Plastics. Elbtal is a global manufacturer of PVC films and specializes in making a 60 MIL pool liner under the name Elbe Blue Line. Last year, my dad was offered the exclusive U.S. distribution rights for their pool liners. This is where my responsibilities within Miller Davis lie.

Elbtal USA was formed as a result of my dad and a business partner, Berthold Mueller, taking over the U.S. distribution of Elbtal’s 60 MIL pool liner. Once this was in place, I moved from marketing to the pool side of the business. I still handle all digital media marketing for both Elbe and Ultimate Pool Surface (the name under which we install the pool liner), but I also help out with day-to day-operations needs such as quoting the material for projects and staying in contact with our poolFORCE certified installers around the world.

I have only been doing this full-time for a few months but, so far, I have really enjoyed it! I love to travel and learn about new places. Another thing I really love about this job is meeting and working with people from around the globe.
